Instead of following the directions, spend a little time on the internet learning about papermaking. It works best to make your own "mush". a) tear up scrap paper, b) boil it, c) put it in an old blender to mush it (you can control the amount of water this way). It's good to have a dedicated papermaking, old blender because making paper regularly will ruin your home blender! Throw in some flower petals or dried flowers to make it pretty (you need quite a few to have them show). Sometimes it works best to have a basin full of the mush and then put the screen in and pull the screen up, like panhandling for gold. Put the screen on TOP of something so that there is space under the screen (this part is hard to explain---like maybe put something underneath the corners to hold it up) and then, using a sponge, press on the paper to smooth it out and squish the water out. If you want to WRITE on the paper you have to mix some sizing or starch into the must. Instructions are here:
